Gift Guides - Can you stand one more?

I'd like to preface this by saying I've been very quiet about this Gift Guide business since it was launched.
I just spent a little time going through the MOMS and the GRANDMOTHERS Gift Guides and it didn't take long for me to recognize a lot of the items in there. Twenty-six items, in fact, page after page of them.
There are 26 repeats in the mom's and the grandmother's guides. That's just repeat ITEMS. In those TWO guides.
Come on! There's so much talent on Etsy. This is SO redundant already, I know, but apparently so are the Gift Guides.
In case anyone at Etsy is interested in the 26 I found, I have made posters of all the pages and highlighted the duplicates...that I found. Just convo me and I'll get them to you when I have time.

I don't bother to look at them anymore...waste of time...also makes my blood boil.

A change every day would be terrific! And NO duplicates!

I'm not a big fan of the Gift Guides, for many reasons.

Mona- great jewelry! Maybe the reason you haven't been featured is they just haven't discovered your store yet. Your stuff is certainly fabulous enough!
I agree there should be more rotation in the gift guides - not only would it give more sellers exposure, but changing things up on a semiregular basis gives customers a reason to look at them more than once.
However, all the people that are blaming slow sales on the gift guides, perhaps it's just a bad year for sales. I'm no expert, so don't jump down my throat for saying this. But everyone knows the economy is in the crapper. Gas costs double what it did this time last year. Heating costs are at least double. The cost of groceries has skyrocketed. But nobody's wages have been increased to compensate for this outrageous inflation in the cost of living (at least I know mine haven't). People everywhere have a lot less money to spend on gifts this year. And let's face it - what we sell here are luxury items. People who can barely afford to heat their homes and drive to work aren't going to drop $200 on a necklace/purse/painting/whatever. That translates to fewer sales for everybody - GG featured or not.

Yesterday I finally got high speed internet and could actually load the GGs. I saw plenty of duplication.
AND I have to say this. I would bet my bottom dollar that items were picked based upon the photo and the photo only.
I think it was put together fast, hurriedly, and that is the result we have.
Glossy, catalog-quality photos.
Sure, sure, I know that the photos are of critical importance. But I also think the etsy staff is obsessed with them beyond anything else.

Ok, I'm done spending time worrying about the GG. I'm going to spend my time more wisely crafting and look for better ways to sell my goodies! Have A Great Day Everyone!

i agree, the guides are sooo extensive and repetitive they are boring. i DID find one of my items in there the first day, which then sold to someone in my town that day.

I looked around & noticed most of the items look very urban chic... it's a fine style, but not all buyers are looking for it
perhaps urban chic is what etsy used to be & that's the images it still wants to project?
