Where are you in GA., aeriefairy. I am in Savannah. I guess I could check out your profile, huh?

There's a difference between having a business license and having a resale permit in Georgia, which I found out. I have my business license, but that won't let me buy wholesale. The wholesale permit is AMAZINGLY hard to find.

Use this link, you can just register online and they mail it to you. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago.

They don't exactly make it easy to find the info, that's for sure!

I am an accountant in addition to bheing a jewelry maker and what artisanwoodcrafting said is very true. And if you do not correctly report your income and taxes to the Georgia Dept of Revenue, they will not be kind about it. They can mess up your finances for a long time. It is much simpler to report everything correctly and pay your taxes in the first place than to have to deal with them. (I also take on accounting clients ishpak@bellsouth.net).

Hello all! I am also trying to obtain this license. I first started with online business registration, but got held up on the page that asks, "What is the name of the principal officer, general partner, grantor, owner, or trustor?" and asks for ss #, ITIN, or EIN. I put in my name and my social but am getting an error message, ERROR: A value is not allowed for the name of the principal officer, general partner, grantor, owner, or trustor for the following entity types: 1) Sole Proprietor, 2) Church or Church-Controlled Organization, 3) Other Nonprofit Organization, 4) National Guard, and 5) Farmer's Cooperative.
ERROR: A value is not allowed for SSN for the following entity types: 1) Sole Proprietor, 2) Church or Church-Controlled Organization, 3) Other Nonprofit Organization, 4) National Guard, and 5) Farmer's Cooperative.

Did I start with the wrong step? Do I need to obtain another license or tax ID number first before filling this out? Just wondering if anyone else got stuck on this part.
Thanks!

I did a little research and am seeing that if I am a sole proprietor, I do not need to register a business with the state of GA. Does that mean I do not NEED a federal tax ID number (employer ID number)?

Then how do I apply for the resale license if the online ga.gov business registration program won't let me register?

Wow they sure DON'T make it easy! You have to register for a Sales & Use Tax number and it takes 3-4 to process.

3 or 4 weeks to process, that is.
