Hi,

I'm a newbie on Etsy and going to my first craft fair next month. How do people accept credit card payments? I've heard various methods one of which is taking an imprint of the card and then using virtual terminal? but surely that leaves you wide open to fraudsters?

I don't want to make a huge outlay at present until I see how my stuff sells. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ali

Me? Broadband card + laptop = paypal

A lot of others use Propay. It's affordable and works well. There's a discount for etsy users, though I don't know what the code is. Someone will chime in with it, or contact (esty user name) ProPayMike

With this discount link, just for Etsy, you can get the Mid range program for the lower range price:
Cool Propay Discount Link!

Also, there's a user here called PropayMike who would be able to help with any questions, problems. Here's the thread link where he posted more details: www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5318693

Propay is the way to go!

Then you'll need a knucklebuster (imprinter).
Mr Imprinter on feeBay is the best deal.
I picked up a starter kit, which also included 100 slips and the plate.

Total investment: about $60 for both.

My craft fair sales are about 30% more, due to accepting credit cards.

Propay works great!

And I'd be cautious about using any sort of wireless network while at a craft fair... Who knows what, if any, type of security they have in place. :)

I use my broadband card, skiingweaver, not a public wireless network. It's my own direct connection (I can use it anywhere you can use your cellphone).
