How to use flickr to promote your shop!

I see lots of people asking how to use flickr to advertise.
First of all flickr does NOT allow links to your website in your picture descriptions. A few people from etsy have had their flickr accounts deleted because they did this. You can have a link to your website in your profile though.
Ways to use flickr to promote your shop:
- Add pictures of items you make! good pictures, pictures that make people want to look. Also add pictures of your self, your everyday life. The pictures that get the most views on my flickr are of me and my cats.
- Join groups! There are tons (4,670) of etsy related groups on flickr! Here is a link to the groups:
www.flickr.com/search/groups/?q=etsy&m=all
Add your pictures to these groups and become active in the discussions. There are groups for EVERYTHING on flickr. If you have pink hair and you're putting up pictures of yourself, put them in the pink hair group, as well as the hair dye group, unnatural hair color group, etc. Just an example.
- Comment on other peoples pictures. I try to comment
on at least 10 pictures a day. I search for something that interests me (cats, sewing, tattoos) and comment away!
- Tagging your pictures! Tagging your pictures correctly is very important on flickr. A lot of my items show up in yahoo image search because of it. If someone searches "cute zipper pouch" or "camera necklace" my items show up, which is awesome!
I highly recommend buying a pro account. It only cost $24 for one year and you can see where all your hits are coming from, which in turn lets you see if your tagging is working. Not to mention it's very interesting.
If I think of anything else I'll add it.
I hope that helps a little.

You've always got such great tips! I know I definitely need to start commenting more myself.

I just upgraded to a pro account, so I would have a good place to keep my photos for later use.
However, I do not want to spend time with all that rigamarole looking at other people's photos just to get them to look at mine. It is just too time-consuming to do that sort of thing with all the sites I have listed photos in.
but I like having a bank of photos to make slideshows and stuff out of, or to have handy for uploading onto my own website.
