Hi everyone!
We decided to make a discussion thread for this tech update from yesterday, since there are many comments on the article, and it will be easier to answer questions in a forum thread.
Please check out this article to read about the changes, which are intended to help your items get more visibility and clicks from Google and other search engines:

i'd just like to say thanks for taking care of this issue. i've read the article and it sounds like y'all are taking some really sensible steps (well - about as sensible as anything technological can be imo). i'm looking forward to these improvements. just keep the communication going.

I'm excited about the changes, I'm always afraid a new update to the SEO will force me to rearrange my entire shop and tags, I'm glad to hear that this is not the case, at least right now!

Okay, I am copying my questions and pasting them here in hopes someone may be able to answer or reassure me;
"Delpfinewelchdesigns says;
"What about if your user name and your shop name are the same?"
Same question here (for me).
Is that why I have had problem after problem trying to upload items to google base? Duplicate wording? Or is this a completely separate issue?
Is there a forum thread someone can point us to so we can read through and see what can be done to fix this?
(thank you for at least saying there would be a forum thread, all though I had to search for it because no link was actually given,lol)
And lastly, before the changes, I was receiving google alerts on missficklemedia every time I listed a new item on etsy, which was and still is daily. But I do not receive any google alerts for my business name, user name or new items now.
Is this something that will be fixed when the second set of changes are made?"
I read the article twice and I guess what I am most confused about is this quote from the email alerting us to the storque article on seo update;
"We're pre-announcing these changes to ensure sellers have time to prepare, but it's important to note that you don't need to make any changes to your shop or item listing pages. It's your choice whether you want to work on SEO."
I need to prepare for something, I'm sure, I mean it is important issue I care about and I understand that it is my choice whether I want to work on SEO and I DO!!! I really do! I just do not know what else to do, aside from all the changes previously suggested, which I have done to the best of my ability.
Do I continue to wait? Is another set of instructions forthcoming? Or am I waiting for changes on etsy's side?
I'm trying really hard here to understand the information that has been given to me, it is probably a little bit above my intelligence level and I may need to hire someone to help me!
Any advise in simple language would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Shannon
