Do you think writing is an art form? Down and dirty.

Just looking for a yay or nay here.
Are people who manipulate *words* considered artists, in your opinion? And should they be allowed on Etsy (they already are, just curious about *YOUR* opinion as to that fact)?
Thanks :)

Pushing the limit? HOW?
Because it is brainmade? Would you think a novel wasn't "handmade"?
Words are paintings but with a different medium. They both come from deep within and are made by the creator; how can anyone say a drawing is okay but a well crafted letter isn't art?

My opinion is my opinion. I think it's pushing it. I'm entitled to think so.

It's an art form. The challenge seems to be coming up with a physical/digital way to present that art.

Is it because the subject is business? Struggling to understand your view, eye...
Does the BUSINESS slant make you less likely to see art?

(And I welcome your opinion - - I just want to understand it better :)

Yes. That's why there are copywriters, great authors, poets, speech writers....

I think you need to define "art" before anyone can accurately answer that question.
If you mean art in a very broad sense, as in, is it an activity which requires creativity, then yes.
But is it art in a more conventional sense, no, I don't think so.

My dad is a copywriter (and was a fiction novelist), and I don't think he'd consider it "art".

In my opinion, not all writing is art ... and not all painting is art.

I think I agree with theeye ... and I would add further that I don't consider business letters art even though they can be artfully written with creativity and skill... I also don't consider an immaculate and stylishly decorated room to be art, even though it was done with skill and artful aesthetics and talent and so on. I think that poetry can be art, and I think that singing can be art, but I don't think that giving a truly excellent presentation at work is art (even if it uses some of the same skills)
I don't feel that saying something isn't 'art' is an insult. And I think that language is confusing. I could use the expression "it's an artform" or "that's a work of art" about all kinds of things, which would basically mean that it was done so well, it's so impressive, that it's *like* a piece or art.
