I'd rather see curators feature one of their own items than a 'vintage' item that is only 3-4 years old.

The issue I've found is many time the treasuries on the FP DO include one or more items of the curator. The ones that have gotten the most FP time have always included one item of their own in the treasuries.

I've seen this occasionally as well. I've also seen treasuries that include an item from the curator's second shop. Some will always find a way to "beat" the system, it seems.

Once upon a time you were able to use one of the spots for your own product. I was in an etsy virtual lab and the moderator said it was allowed, but I guess that has changed. The idea was if your treasury made the front page, your product would not be shown.

I personally don't see the huge deal of why we can't include one of our own items. We are promoting 15 other shops, so that's still good.

This upsets me. If they DON'T remove the curators item in some FP'ers...how can they go ahead and remove them in others? I'd be really ticked if they removed my item and the next treasury came up with a curator's item in it.

kriskay and jaffajaf and so many others,

Thank you for reading and getting my point!
I really do wish we could change Etsy's mind about self inclusion being a exclusion from the Front Page.

It's gets to me too to see 2nd shops made on the front page or worse items against the TOUs. But that is part why I think opening the rules to allow one of your own items would counter some of this behind the sneaky scenes that is going on currently.

Again, it's not tacky to include oneself. It's called marketing.

i've made hundreds of Treasuries and never once put in one of my items.

*this is one area where we DO benefit from helping others, even if it doesn't seem apparent.
curators get a lot of exposure... and many have become very well known merely by curating style and the quality of their collections.
i'd really hate to see this change.
*it's an old tradition and i like it

thanks for listening!

I don't think it would change the tradition of treasuries. People will still not include one of their own items. There areplenty of reasons treasuries are created.

It's simply a request that if you do include one of your own items, that it not be excluded for FP. It think because of this rule, it's why many people think it's against the rules outright. Or why people make rude comments or think it's tacky self promotion if you do include yourself.

So, I am seeing a lot of the responses I expected.
The point of a treasury is to NOT feature your own item, but items you like.

Or, if you feature your item, your chances of making the FP goes to zilch.

We are on Etsy to SELL. I don't get this black out of marketing to this one section on Etsy...

================

Try to think of it as the one place you are asked to do a favour for others rather than for yourself. You aren't forced to participate, after all - only the generous need apply

and btw, not everyone is here to sell their own stuff, actually. There are some pretty diverse reasons people open an Etsy shop. I found a lot of them while compiling treasuries made up entirely of other people!

Well not JUST the generous :oP Obviously it is being used a self promotional tool, just not directly.

Treasury was invented as a tool to feature other sellers items, favorites, etc. It was never meant to be a tool for self-promotion. It is quite tacky to self promote through a free feature that etsy provides.

I hope it never changes.
______

It was never meant to be a tool for self promotion is correct but it has become a self promoting tool regardless. Even without self inclusion the treasury teams are absolutely using the system as self promotion.

I understand the sentiment that has come around regarding this. For newer users they never knew a treasury system that was soley based on promoting others and not yourself like it used to be.

Why not just cut out the middle man Etsy and go ahead and let users promote themselves directly in the treasuries?

Honestly I would hate to see Etsy do that but really the original intent of the treasury system is long gone I'm afraid.
