Solar System Necklace - Cascading Planets
Proportional Distances of the Solar System measured in Beads
Hooray! Our Solar System Jewelry series has been featured by The Planetary Society, MAKE: NASA, and NPR's Science Friday!
Copper and glass beads form the central Sun.
Stone planets dangle from the collar on beaded strands,
creating a cascading bar graph in beads.
Each planet's distance from the Sun is measured proportionally,
with each tiny black glass bead representing
approximately ~40 million miles / ~64 million kilometers of Space.
Planets are enlarged for dramatic emphasis*.
A wearable version of an astrometric chart,
with stone, glass, and shell beads representing the sun and planets,
this solar system necklace is a decorative cosmogram,
inspiring thoughts of the vastness of Space.
This necklace includes Mercury, Venus, Earth (& our Moon), Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Planets with many moons are accented with opalescent glass beads.
*Not for use in actual Space Navigation
Collar circumference: ~ 15.5 inches / 39 centimeters
Neptune dangles down from the collar ~ 6 inches / 15 centimeters
