This beautiful bead embroidered collar took 2 and a half months to complete. The inspiration behind it comes from the Blue Goldstone cabochon in the centre. To me, the deep blue colour and mysical sparkling on the stone as the light reflects off it reminds me of a night's sky. This idea was taken further into the galaxy, into space. If you do an internet search for "space stars" you will find many beautiful pictures of our solar system, including these for example: http://au.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A0oGdNgksN5Q7HoAHm036At.?p=space+stars&fr=&fr2=piv-web
This gorgeous collar depicts a star's aerial burst, in which the brightest part of the star (where all the interesting chemistry is going on) is in the centre, and decreasing in the brightness the further away from the centre you look. This is shown in the collar by changes in the light : dark colour ratios in the beads.
The cabochons used are Blue Goldstone in various sizes, black onyx, and two charoite (these are the two purple ones seen). Main seed bead colours used include (from the middle of the collar towards the back of the collar): gold-lined blue, blue iris, and black. Each seed bead was stitched two at a time in random thread paths.
The collar is completed by a black outline and edging, and a bead woven clasp secures it around the neck. The clasp consists of a black onyx bead embroidered "button" and a woven loop featuring black AB bicone beads. Small glass pearls are featured at the front of the collar with the focal cabochon.
This collar will look fabulous with an evening dress (particularly strapless), dress shirt, or over a high-necked sweater.
