Catalog #: Scott 1036
This is a collection of 50 very historic bright red-violet vintage 1950s US postage stamps. All of these stamps are cancelled and off paper. Many of the stamps have very interesting and desirable postmarks and cancellations from all around the US. These stamps are in very fine condition for such petite antiques! Philatelists describe this color as bright red-violet but it's the same as red plum or fuschia. This attention grabbing collection creates perfect embellishments for any red plum, fuschia or even purple themed event.
President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) appeared on the most popular stamp in the United States when, after 26 years at 3cents, the 1st class postage rate rose to 4cents on August 1, 1958. Originally issued on November 16, 1954, this red-violet stamp features Lincoln’s likeness inspired by a portrait by Douglas Volk. 1st class postage remained 4cents through January 6, 1963, and this stamp was the workhorse during that period. From Nov 1, 1953 - July 30, 1958, 4cents also paid the added-ounce rate on surface letters to Europe.
Charles R. Chickering of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing designed these stamps.
Please note the quantity available in this listing. There is more than one set available and the more you buy, the more you'll save on shipping!
Not only can these stamps be appreciated by philatelic collectors & enthusiasts, they can also be used for decorative paper crafting, card making, collages, scrapbooking, journaling, jewelry making and more! Sorting and organizing stamps offers endless hours of soothing relaxation for both the young and old. Getting your kids into stamps at a young age will help them to be better organized in the future.
I have seen some crafters and designers using these to create wedding cake pendants, wedding invitations, bridal shower invitations and a variety of greeting cards.
