Window Into Time

Look back into the recesses of time with this one of a kind necklace. Two rectangular pendants of limestone filled with crinoid fossils hang in amongst herringbone strands of a gray-themed mixture of seed beads. Beaded beads surrounded by ocean jasper are scattered throughout the herringbone strands, and a strand of seed beads, bugle beads, and more jasper play in and out to create the final full look.

This OOAK necklace was created for the EBW April 2009 challenge, themed "Time Machine." What is more of a window into the past than rocks and fossils? The limestone pendants tell of an ancient marine environment, where crinoids grew abundantly. Ocean jasper, a variety of orbicular jasper, speaks of a more fiery past where quartz or feldspar crystallized into radial aggregates in volcanic rhyolite or tuff.

This necklace is approximately 26 inches (66 cm) long. The clasp is a tubular peyote toggle and a loop of beads.
