This is a vintage 1980s lithograph featuring the botanical study of September Flowers by John Bowles, an 18th century London publisher/printer. Bowles adapted the prints from Robert Furber’s 'Twelve Months of Flowers', a groundbreaking flower seed catalog published in 1730 featuring detailed illustrations of grand flower arrangements in neoclassical urns grouped by the months in which they bloomed. Due to their incredible success, in 1745 Bowles' re-engraved Furber's work in reverse on a slightly smaller scale and added butterflies and other insects. An original set of Bowles' 1745 'Twelve Months of Flowers' are on display at the Winterthur Museum on the former estate of Henry Francis du Pont in Delaware. *IMPORTANT INFO & LINKS BELOW...
