Have you ever wondered what you were going to do with that stack of perfectly good, but outgrown baby clothes? Well, I can make you a beautiful heirloom rag quilt, incorporating all of those wonderful little treasures into a soft and warm one-of-a-kind keepsake.
Rag quilts are made with the seams exposed and clipped to help create the wonderful raggy effect. There are three layers: the blocks of the baby clothes on top, flannel in the middle and the backing which can be cotton fabric or flannel depending on the weight you want. All clothing pieces are backed with a featherweight interfacing to keep everything stable. After it is finished, the quilt will be washed and dried once to start the ragging process
My baby clothes quilt blocks are a combination of solid and pieced blocks that I frame with cotton fabric. I can use just about anything you have for your quilt except heavy knits like sweaters and hats. Onesies, bibs, jammies, burp cloths, nursery bedding, tshirts, even some little jeans would all be perfect for the quilt.
After making your purchase, you will mail the clothes to me at your expense. I suggest you check out the flat rate boxes from the postal service for a good value. At the time of purchase let me know the color you want for the backing. Also let me know if you want cotton or flannel on the back. If you wish, I can make the color choice for you based on the clothing you send. If you don't have enough clothes for the size quilt you want, I can fill in with other fabrics. If there are items left over after the quilt is completed, they will be returned to you with the quilt or I can donate them to a worthy local charity.
I construct all my rag quilts using a 5/8” seam allowance for a full bloom. Each seam and the outside edge are double stitched for durability and strength. The quilts are fully washable, just use cold water on the delicate setting and dry using the same. Do be sure to check your lint filter while drying as they will shed some lint for the first few washings. The best thing about rag quilts is that they get softer with each washing.
The price quoted is for a 47” x 62” size. I have listed several other sizes and prices below. If you would like one of those sizes or if you want with different dimensions, just convo me. I can quote you a price for any size not listed and put up a special listing for you. All pricing includes shipping the quilt to you via Priority Mail if you are within the US. Overseas customers please convo me for shipping rates.
Please allow 30 days from the time I receive the clothing for completion of your quilt, though most are done much sooner. If more time is needed, I will let you know as soon as I know.
Because of the demand for my quilts I've had to establish a waiting list. Please convo me if you are interested in having me make one for you.
