These are beautiful handmade ogham staves. Each ogham stave is made from the wood of the tree that it represents - so birch for birch, rowan on rowan etc. Most people don't bother with this, and make oghams all from one wood, so my sets are much more special!
These staves are longer than the ones in my other sets - they're about 6 inches long, and I've left the bark on the staves rather than stripping it off.
The starves were sanded (by hand) and then pyrographed (burnt) with the appropriate ogham symbol, making them much harder wearing than oghams that are just painted.
The ogham is a celtic alphabet/divination system, based on 20 native British trees. It is used in much the same way as runes, though less commonly used than runes.
They will come with an information sheet to offer a basic introduction to divining with ogham and a bag made from up-cycled fabric to keep them in.
All wood I use for my crafts is gathered, found or from prunings, I don't harvest any wood for my work. Most of my wood comes from Somerset - the Isle of Avalon, Dorset or Cornwall.
You will receive a set similar, but perhaps not identical to that listed.
Please read all shipping information and policies below before making your purchase. Buy committing to buy this gorgeous item, you are also committing to my shop policies (sorry they're so long!)
1. Standard shipping includes tracking for this item to all destinations and will also cover any other items purchased in the same transaction - no need to pay for extra insurance for anything else. I offer generous postal discounts for multiple purchases made in one transaction - the discount will be applied automatically at checkout by etsy.
All items, regardless of destination are posted with a proof of posting, which I am happy to send an image of via etsy conversation if you request it that includes basic insurance, but NO tracking to use if, for some reason, the parcel does not arrive with you. Should your order be lost in the mail (a very rare occurrence these days) your order is now protected by etsy's buyer protection program.
2. Etsy needs me to let you know that no guarantees can be made as to the magical properties, associations or effect of any of the work that I see- they are sold as curios only :).
3. Since 2018 all my packaging is either recycled or plastic free, and able to be recycled as paper - including the tape. If your parcel included bubble-wrap, it's because I've received it from one of my suppliers and want to reuse it rather than toss it in the trash, it would be wonderful if you were also able to reuse any or all of the packing materials. Sometimes re-used envelopes are less attractive - but I feel using scruffy envelopes are better than not reusing them and hope you agree!
