Genes are written in DNA and RNA molecules using a code of chemical units called bases. These bases form pairs, which is critical to their function. In DNA, A (adenine) pairs with T (thymine) and G (guanine) pairs with C (cytosine). In RNA, G pairs with C and A pairs with U (uracil).

The charms are based on shapes of the base molecules. They are hooked onto an earwire at the place where they would normally connect to the sugar-phosphate backbone.

This listing is for one pair of earrings. You can choose which two bases you would like in your pair. Please let me know which two you'd like when ordering. If not specified, I'll send a set of my choice.

The charms are about 3/4 inches long, are made with high-quality sterling silver, and are connected to sterling silver French wires.

These come in a pretty, recycled gift box and include an informational card about the molecules involved.

Most of my jewelry is high quality, solid sterling silver. It is specially formulated to resist tarnish, but, like all silver, will tarnish. You can minimize oxidation by storing silver jewelry in a bag or box away from air and heat. Regularly wearing the jewelry can help rub off tarnish. I allow the silver serotonin necklace I wear daily to develop a bit of a patina. It's OK to wear your sterling silver jewelry in the shower.

Your order will come packaged in a cute, recycled paper gift box with a little card explaining what the molecule represents. I tie it with a ribbon, making a pretty package for gifting - no addition wrapping required.

I ordered a pair of these 5 years and they are my favourite earrings. They have held up well over the years and still look exactly as they did when I purchased them. I teach high school biology and chemistry and my students love them. I ordered this pair as a gift for a colleague, and I know she will love them too!
