Metamorphosis

If you see dragonflies, you can be sure that there's water not far away. They spend the first part of their life lurking around under pond water waiting for some unsuspecting bug to swim past their mouth. They’re not very attractive at this stage of their life, not very noticeable at all as a matter of fact. When it’s time, they crawl their brown body out of the water and attach themselves to something. What happens next might remind you of something straight out of an alien movie. Through an opening in the head another creature forces it’s way out. If it's not eaten by a passing bird, this strange thing slowly transforms into the glorious, light filled, winged creature we all know and love. They unfurl their newly formed wings, take off and dance in the summer sunshine.
