This is a pattern for an intermediate knitter, though a determined beginner could certainly do it. The skills you'll need to knit this rat include:
* Basic Stockinette stitch
* Increase and decrease stitches (right and left leaning)
* I-cord
* Small diameter knitting in the round
* Picot bind-off
* Picking up stitches
* Needle felting
