This Kanzashi flower is approximately 4.5cm (1 and 3/4 inches) in diameter and is strung on a handmade necklace made from a satin cord and a black organza ribbon fastened with a parrot clasp and with a 6cm weighted extension chain. The necklace is approximately 43cm (17 inches) and can be extended to 49cm (18.5 inches).
All Baba-dee Kanzashi flowers are finished with a backing circle which has been neatly covered with matching dupion silk. This ensures that the flower is structurally strong and that it always sits flat and comfortably.
This necklace will be safely shipped in a cotton-lined ribbon wrapped box.
* KANZASHI are beautiful Japanese flowers created by folding small squares of silk into petals and then gluing them together; their most traditional use being as decorations in the elaborate hairstyles of a geisha. More correctly they are called Hana Tsumami Kanzashi – the Japanese word Hana translates as “flower”, Tsumami refers to the process of folding or “pinching” the silk squares to make the flowers and Kanzashi means hair ornament.Baba-dee Kanzashi flowers are hand folded, but not made strictly to the traditional rice paste glue method. I first sew the petals together and then glue each one separately for extra stability and strength.
