My Raven Talon necklace, cast in solid bronze. ★ Here's the talon in Sterling silver - https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/956486874 ★
This is the smaller of the three talons I have in my shop, but no less fearsome. Cast from a museum quality replica of a raven talon found here on British Columbia's beautiful coastline, every tiny detail is captured in bronze and makes for one beautiful piece of jewelry.
Cast in solid bronze, this raven talon has a great size and truly authentic feel to it - wearing it, it's easy to imagine the stunning landscape in which this bird of prey makes its home. My wife designed the spiral motif which is carved into all our talons and claws, and it really gives the piece a uniqueness and resonance of its own - I love the synchronicity of her design with the talon. The piece is completely reversible, and can be worn so the spiral can be kept as your secret.
My Raven talon measures 1 1/4" from the top to the tip and, being cast from solid bronze, has a fantastic weight and feel to it. And it's just the perfect size for you Madam, and you Sir, too. The talon hangs from a carefully positioned jump ring which moves freely in the talon.
The talon comes on your choice of chain or leather - all leather necklaces are adjustable and come with our signature Lost Apostle clasp (shown in the last photo).
Like all my jewelry, this talon is cast in the finest jewelers bronze and polished and finished entirely by hand. A patina is applied to the talon to really bring out the spiral detail and all the intricacies of the talon itself, and finally a special process is applied to the piece to stop it from tarnishing - this is one talon that will look after itself.
My wife and I went for a hike to the top of Mt. Daniel on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. It's a beautiful walk amongst ancient Douglas Firs and towering Red Cedars and, at the top, a plateau of granite spreads out like a viewing platform, crowned with iridescent Arbutus trees and 360 degree views. It's truly one of the world's most beautiful places.
As we sat there, 11 huge ravens swooped out of the trees below us and soared just meters in front of us on our vantage point half a kilometre up in the sky. Their wings whistled as they flew by, corkscrewing up hundreds of meters above us only to spiral down back to earth in a matter of seconds. For half an hour we watched as these incredibly intelligent birds put on a display I hope I'll remember for the rest of my life. I always knew these birds were intelligent but I'd never heard the full extent of their language until that day - the silent sky around us was punctuated only by their communication, a staggering assortment of croaks, hums, clicks and whistles.
I've seen dolphins in the ocean and heard their singing. The song of the Raven is every bit as beautiful.
