My name is Julia.I am an art teacher jeweler, painter, poet, and actor. I have always been fond of of the Seuss character called the Yink “who likes to wink and drink pink ink.”Despite my friends tall tales I do not actually sip paint and eat shining bead bon-bons,or carry sonnets as trail mix for hikes. But I never mind them saying so.
I think of art as fun but I take it seriously.I take pride in doing original work and selling absolutely no prints.I respect that this is not possible for all artists and prints can be very pretty. But I love the texture and depth of genuine paintings.I love knowing a painting is the only one in the world and I want to give that feeling to my patrons. I use paint to create interactions.I carve sgrafitto labyrinths for ink and acrylic to run through. I tilt canvases to create drips and I employ not only brushes but also pieces of shells, backs and caps of of paint tubes, lace doilies ,leafs and special tools to create textures.
My wire wrapping is a more recent endeavor.I started wire wrapping 3 years ago. My are bangles sold in brick and mortar boutiques in two states, but I am excited about using Etsy to reach consumers directly.
Jewelry is art that goes with you. The wearer brightens up buses, offices, and dreary waiting rooms. I love how Jewelry can spark a conversation and start a new friendship. I especially love this as someone who knows what it’s like to be new in town.
Previously I have lived in Wisconsin, California, and Texas. I now live in D.C. I also got to spend a month in Guatemala which is filled with wonderful patterns and hues. So many things inspire my jewelry: impressionist paintings, kaleidoscopes, cacti, carousels, and snowglobes. I continually challenge myself with each work.
I love the ocean so I promise the shells for my Artsy Wampum are gathered in an ocean friendly way. I collect the shells without killing any sea creatures, or booting them from there home. My friend and I once tandem bicycled to return a snail to the ocean that I had accidentally collected. For more about my guarantees go to shop policies. Thank you for taking an interest in my work. Favorite this store if you don’t want it lost in the Etsy labyrinth. You can also fan me on facebook by typing in artpoet jewelry, then clicking like.
