Rangkosh was the result of collaboration of two individuals with a passion towards rendering hancrafted silver jewelry a new meaning with the usage of ethnic, traditional designs and silversmithing techniques.
Our shop has so far 3 people involved – Sonia, Ananya, and L Nagesh. Sonia has been designing and crafting handmade jewelry for more than 3 years now. Her brand of jewelry is quite popular – she handcrafted jewelry using strings, seed beads, semi-precious gemstones and colorful crystals can be seen on several online e-commerce stores as well as in craft fairs in India. Her desire to learn about traditional silversmithing and creating handmade silver jewelry led to the conception of the brand ‘Rangkosh’ in collaboration with Ananya and Nagesh.
Ananya is a design graduate who is full of life and dreams of bringing greater recognition to handmade techniques which originate from ancient Indian culture. Her drive to revive the charm and allure of Indian silversmithing techniques led us to start the journey wherein we sought the methods, techniques and expertise in traditional silversmithing techniques. We travelled extensively to various places in India where silver-crafting methods were passed from generations, and started to explore the different silversmithing techniques, like chasing, engraving, filigree-making (known as jaali-work here), soldering etc wherein our aim is to be able to learn these methods and imbibe the same in our creations, so as to bring spotlight onto these techniques once again. Our learning is still in the process, since we continue to meet amazing silversmith experts who fascinate us with their skill level and techniques. For now, all our designs are inspired from the cultural influences in Rajasthani-Kutch area in India.
Nagesh is our brilliant and master silversmith, who we came across in our quest to revive metalsmithing techniques, and who shares the same passion as we do – to make exquisitely handcrafted silver jewelry available to interested individuals, using the traditional silversmithing techniques, sometimes with a modern twist. He taught us to make bezel tapes, solder, anneal, hammer etc, but it is he who has utmost skills and crafts exquisite designs.
Welcome to our shop! Each of our creations narrate a lore of its own, so do spend some time listening to the stories they tell! Thank you for stopping by <3
