About

Hi! My name is Sue Shimomura and I'm here on etsy to realize my lifelong dream of owning my own quilting business. My wonderful husband Eric encourages me (while keeping me grounded), and our six kids (four of them are adults now...whew!) fill our nights and weekends with endless love and entertainment (and laundry and dirty dishes, lol).

One of my early memories is of my grandmother laying a quilt on the floor of her living room, covering over her wool rug, providing my sister and me with cool cotton comfort on hot days. The quilt was old and crinkled and faded, mostly white, with closely spaced rows of hand quilting. It was soft and always smelled like fresh air. It was a wonderful treat when the quilt came out and we could lie down on it.

I think that beautiful, old quilt is what inspired me to begin quilting myself. For me, quilts capture the feeling of that quilt on my Nini's floor: soft and crinkled, clean and fresh, ready for snuggling. They also evoke wonderful memories. Although I don't know who made that old quilt, or what became of it, I will always remember how special it was when Nini took it out.

Blueberry Buckle Quilts combines my many years of designing and sewing quilts with a desire to share the comfort a soft, snuggly quilt, along with a love for fresh, modern fabrics. My studio is bright and full of gorgeous fabrics that provide inspiration for my quilt designs. My sewing machine looks out into my back yard, where chickadees and bumblebees visit. It is truly a joy and a privilege to be able to spend hours sewing love and care into each and every quilt.

Blessings,

Sue
