Hi I am Vivica and Omnatura Conscioius Native Design is my labour of love. I am a graduate of the Pasadena Art Center for Design, and by combining my vision of modern design and aesthetic with the traditional craft of the artisan I try to create sustainable fashion objects.
Omnatura was born in 2004 in Salvador Bahia, Brasil form my collaboration as a designer/consultant with the designer/artisan Selma Santos with the idea to create sustainable jewelry made of 100% organic, sustainable materials. This experience led to discover a world of great talent and materials, but also of great poverty and need. Soon I became familiar (and friends!) with many Bahian artisans and their work, and from a series of collaborations evolved a line of handcrafted jewelry and one of a kind clothing.
Since 2004 Omnatura evolved and the need to expand led to the creation of Omnatura Conscious Native Design in the USA and Omnatura Biojoias do Brasil in Brasil.
Since then the two Omnaturas have worked in parallel developing the concepts of Sustentability and Fair Trade, using nature made materials and increasing consumer consciousness.
Omnatura works with salvaged bone and horn, different indigenous coconuts, many different kinds of seeds sustainably harvested by native Brazilian tribes, and semiprecious stones and geodes, locally mined from small artisanal companies.
The base concepts that drive Omnatura are the following: - Use of strictly nature–made materials, often reused or rescued from the landfill. - Everything is made by hand or with the use of very simple machinery. - I support native economies, using indigenous skills and materials. - Supporting artisans in extremely poor areas of the world. - Always Fair Trade
In 2009 Omnatura Biojoias do Brasil started a collaboration with the state agency Sebrae, who supports entrepeneurs and small businesses. In 2010 Omnatura Biojoias do Brasil was qualified by Banco Do Brasil as a "Sustainable Development Unit", becoming part of its official support program for sustainable businesses.
