Tactile Studios Ltd. was born out of my love for making well crafted jewelry, as well as the giving of sentiment. Having a hand in the special symbols we give each other is really fun. Weather its a little something to say thank you, or a custom wedding band, I make everything with high standards to ensure that you can enjoy your jewelry for years to come.
The story behind the name, Tactile, is that the knowledge here is in our hands. I have had the great pleasure to learn this craft from some amazing teachers. The best way to learn this skill, is directly from the hands of another. Sure, I could've read books on it, and learned about fabrication in theory. But the only way to really know how to make these things is by learning from someone else. Soldering is surprisingly intuitive, and learning how to swing those hammers just right, takes a lot of practice.
At the moment, Tactile Studios is just me. I hope to be so busy in the future that I can hire an apprentice, and pass on some of the knowledge I've learned.
I've had the great pleasure of making some awesome custom work these past few years. I have taken family stones and re-set them in an updated style, re-strung family pearls so the next generation will actually wear them, and taken inexpensive stones from peoples travels and put them in something they can wear for years to come.
While I love making fancy pieces, I really take pride in making pieces that you can wear every day. Soldering all connections closed insures that you don't have to worry about losing a piece of your favorite earrings, or the clasp falling off of your chain. It also means that the majority of my work can be worn for weeks at a time. I make a lot of jewelry without stones, to really maximize its wearability. I also use solid sterling silver, to make sure that those with nickel allergies can feel comfortable wearing my pieces. While I will use mixed metals, very rarely will anything but sterling go thru your ears.
Thank you for supporting my little studio, and for supporting independent craftspeople in general. We all have a little something special to share with the world, and its awesome when you get to do it as your job.
