Note from shop owner Dear fellow Etsians and valued customers,

You may have noticed that my store is currently closed. This is due to circumstances beyond my control, namely my inability to accept payments at the moment due to restrictions directly imposed by PayPal and Etsy.

PayPal has recently suspended operations in my home country of Turkey, refusing to pay due taxes to the local government and failing to meet what are required and standard regulations for all financial institutions operating here, particularly as they relate to the data protection and privacy laws for all our citizens -- similar to those, for instance, in the European Union. Furthermore, Etsy is not allowing withdrawals to Turkish banks, debit, or credit cards for payments made through their own direct checkout system. As a result, I'm unable to process any payments for the moment.

I apologize to you potential customers for being unable to serve you for the time being. Selling on Etsy has indeed long been not only a source of additional income for my family, but an important and cherished part of my livelihood; the current situation thus -- unsurprisingly -- makes me very unhappy. I sincerely do hope the payment processing issues will be resolved soon, be it via PayPal getting its act together in Turkey or Etsy working with Turkish banks to process payments directly.

By the way, I can tell from my own experience and corresponding with many other fellow Turks here that both PayPal and Etsy are receiving extremely negative publicity as a result of this situation -- something that should be of particular concern to them as there are very, very many users of both services here in Turkey and it's a huge market for them both, now nothing but a complete loss.
