7100islands

7100 Islands is about bags and baskets that are fun and modern, with lots of texture and splashes of bright! It is also about pieces thoughtfully crafted in France using materials sourced ethically from tribes and artisan communities in the Philippines, a chain of islands in southeast Asia.

For this first collection, the focus is on wonderful abaca fabric in two forms, T'nalak woven by the T'boli tribe and Hinabol created by the Higaonon. I sew them and sculpt them, so that while the material comes from centuries-old traditions, the finished forms are very now.
