Thanks for dropping by my shop, AntariLush. Here you'll find my photographic and collage work, as well as other forms of ephemera. And you can also browse my vintage finds.
I didn't start out to do any of this. My husband, Nyoman Sumerta, and I run Sumerta Designs. But my main goal was to continue on with my studies, to finish a second graduate degree and get on with my PhD. But, a traumatic brain injury resulted in me leaving my studies and focusing full time on my recovery, and on being a mother, wife, and helping manage our business.
About a year after my accident, which was in 2011, I had an opportunity to take a sizable amount of semi precious stones and beads off of someone. It was a mother load for me and, fascinated, I started out making necklaces. My full line is Artefina Creations.
This, my newest shop, AntariLush, progressed rather organically out of my jewellery making. It was interesting because I had never been a real crafter before, but after my injury, I seemed to gravitate toward creating. I see myself as more a tinker than an artist. I am not a "photographer," but I enjoy taking pictures and love using some of them in my designs. And I have a new found love of collaging and working with paper. I'm experimenting with new materials and ideas all the time and can't wait to finally get well stocked with all my tinkering.
The vintage acquiring and selling also seemed to come quite naturally. I have always loved thrift shops and am drawn to the odd little things that can be found in one. I also acquired a love of dishes and decorations from family members who had themselves amassed quite a collection, some of which I have been fortunate to treasure myself, and to pass on to others.
So, that's the long and short of it. The woulda, coulda, shoulda been, and the IS. I'm so much happier delighting in the IS than holding on to all that other stuff. Sometimes life wakes us up. Sometimes we need just a subtle tap. Other times it's more crash, boom, bang. For me, I'm just happy to know I have found my true calling in all of this creating!
