I'm in love with old stuff. Relatively old stuff, very old stuff, even slightly old stuff.

It is a decades-long affair that has never grown old, never gotten boring, never become less of a consuming passion.

Every piece whispers a story of hope to me; I find something admirable about each and every one of these old survivors.

I am an equal-opportunity antique-er. I love 'em, from the worthy battered and slightly broken to the pristine designer or famous maker pieces. My criteria focuses largely on a) the concept of 'line,' I buy what appeals to my (admittedly eclectic) sense of design; and b) a rather expansive imagination on how to repurpose something in a whimsical or slightly startling way.

My oldest daughter also says that "If it is heavy, my mom will buy it." I am not sure if the contents of AntiqueAddictions confirms or denies that allegation...

In a sense, I sometimes think I'm running a shelter for old stuff. Like abandoned puppies or kittens, plain or pretty, they just want a home, to be cared for and appreciated and utilized. They are rugged survivors and worthy of continuing their old lives in new homes.

Yeah, I guess I do anthropomorphize my inventory. I believe I already mentioned "consuming passion'?

Then there's the fact that all this old stuff is already here, and requires no additional physical resources to make or create. No trees to cut down, no earth to tear up, no coal plants feeding production lines. Doesn't get 'greener' than that.

And just look at the pages of Etsy! So many creative people are fueling their passions and their own economic engines by re-inventing or repurposing old stuff! And so many creative people are enhancing their lives and refreshing their ambiance with the old stuff they find here.
