Never in a million years would I have thought when I retired I would be coiling pine needles. I am a self-proclaimed geek. I spent my entire career doing technical, mathematical, analytical, nerdy things. Me an artistic type?? Not a chance.
It all happened rather innocently. Years ago, my mother taught me the basics of how to coil but I never took up the endeavor because quite frankly, it took waaaay too much time. Mom passed away in 2004 and more than a year after her passing, I was cleaning out a closet and found her coiling supplies as well as the basket you see at the top of the photo. She had started that basket but never finished it. Tears welled up in my eyes as I remembered how much she loved to coil. I decided then and there that I would finish that basket for "us". In my eyes it is the most beautiful basket in all the world because it is love.
Mom tried to get me to coil for years but I never would. She never got to see my first basket but I know she "sees" it all now. So, after a number of years of making baskets and giving them to friends and family, I've gotten to a place where I'm running out of room in my house to display them.
By opening my Etsy shop, I hope that others will see the beauty of this art form and maybe find a space in their home to enjoy one of my creations.
Thank you for stopping by!
