I discovered the world of stones by chance a few years ago. One day, I come across a show like "Gem Trackers": people who go on an "adventure" to look for gems for customers, or to find rough stones to cut them. I am well aware that these shows do not always reflect the reality of the field, but I take to the game, and discover a profession to which I had not paid attention until then: The LAPIDAIRE.

The magic happens: transform a raw stone, not necessarily harmonious, into a magnificent faceted stone.

I begin to retrieve all the information on the stones, learn to recognize them one after the other, and make many contacts around the world: Europe, USA, Africa, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Burma, India, Pakistan ...

I quickly understand that to cut beautiful stones you have to find good suppliers of rough stones, this is essential and will become a priority.

I am also learning the art of pruning, the theory already, and at the end of 2017 I buy a gallows veneer: the "Tom Thumb" from Jersey Instrument.
After that, everything will go very quickly, and so will the passion. From a few hours a week at first, I spend 6-7 hours a day at the waist.
There is no secret: to know how to prune you have to spend time in... carve!

Confident but not so much, I launch mid-2018 in the American contest of the USFG (United States Faceter Guild), in the Novice category.
Imposed size diagram, imposed dimensions, I make my stone of the contest as best I can, and I send it.

In November 2018, I receive the result ... I passed the test, with a stone more than 90% successful!! And icing on the cake I finished 7th in my category out of the 17 certified. This is a great victory for me.

This success opens the doors this year for the Pre-Master 2019 competition.

This small victory confirms my idea, and I start my own business by registering with the Chamber of Trades and Crafts, and create "Chic & Gemmes".
To begin with, it will be an E-shop dedicated to the sale of stones that I would have cut myself. I refine the choice of my raw material suppliers, select the rough stones as well as possible to produce a precisely faceted stone, and ultimately ensuring them a beautiful shine, a beautiful shine and a quality polishing.

In a few months, I would also like to be able to develop, a jewelry business, in order to be able to present jewelry made entirely by hand, without molding, and with of course, stones that I would have faceted.

Un jour, je tombe sur une émission type " Traqueurs de pierres précieuses" : des personnes qui partent à "l'aventure" chercher des gemmes pour des clients, ou pour trouver des pierres brutes afin de les tailler. Je suis bien conscient que ces émissions ne reflètent pas toujours la réalité du terrain, mais je me prends au jeu, et découvre un métier au quel je n'avais pas prêter attention jusqu'içi : Le LAPIDAIRE .

Je commence ainsi à récupérer toutes les informations sur les pierres, apprends à les reconnaître les unes après les autres, et me fais de nombreux contacts à travers le monde : Europe, USA, Afrique, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Birmanie, Inde, Pakistan...

Je comprends vite, que pour tailler de belles pierres il faut trouver de bons fournisseurs de pierres brutes, celà est primordial et deviendra une priorité.

J'apprends également l'art de la taille, la théorie déjà, et fin 2017 j'achète une facetteuse à potence : la "Tom Thumb" de Jersey Instrument.
Après, tout ira très vite, et la passion aussi d'ailleurs. De quelques heures par semaine au début, je passe 6-7h par jour à la taille.
Il n'y a pas de secret : pour savoir tailler il faut passer du temps à...tailler!

Confiant mais pas tant que celà, je me lance mi-2018 dans le concours Américain de l'USFG (United States Faceter Guild), dans la catégorie Novice.
Diagramme de taille imposé, dimensions imposées, je fais tant bien que mal ma pierre du concours, et je l'envoie.

Au mois de Novembre 2018, je reçois le résultat ... J'ai réussi l'épreuve, avec une pierre réussie à + de 90% !! Et cerise sur le gâteau je finis 7ème de ma catégorie sur les 17 certifiés. C'est une belle victoire à mes yeux.

Cette réussite m'ouvre les portes cette année pour le concours de Pré-Master 2019.

Cette petite victoire me conforte dans mon idée, et je me lance à mon compte en m'inscrivant à la Chambre des Métiers et de l'Artisanat, et crée "Chic & Gemmes".
Pour commencer ce sera un E-shop dédié à la vente des pierres que j'aurais taillées moi -même. J'affine le choix de mes fournisseurs de bruts, sélectionne au mieux les pierres brutes pour en sortir une pierre facettée avec précision, et en leur assurant au final une belle brillance, un bel éclat et un polissage de qualité.
