I am Floyd Alton (Al) Heberer and live in South Georgia. I love the look of ancient pottery and I use exclusively ancient clay sculpting techniques. Clay was hand shaped long before there were stamps, molds or pottery wheels. Rare pieces dating back 20,000 years, still showing the finger marks of the earliest of clay artists are a tribute to the elegance of kiln fired clay and a time long before mass production.
My bowls are shaped without pottery wheels, my flowers without molds or stamps and each facet of my coral reef tiles is lovingly hand pinched, shaped and applied to a hand rolled base. I hope you like my bowl, ocean and garden ceramic art as much as we do.....finger marks and all.
My ceramic wall sculptures are all once or twice kiln fired clay, a material that can last through the ages. I strive for my coral reef art to give the feel of swimming over shallow coral reefs and for my flower bloom wall sculptures to give the feel of walking through a bright spring garden with large blooms bursting everywhere. My free form slab bowls and hand shaped bowls allow for familiar yet contemporary designs. Durable enough to grace a beach or garden side bath or kitchen, my ceramic pieces can compliment any room.
