In September 2010, I started my Etsy shop Design and Create. I wanted a way to sell my watercolor paintings and other decorative items. My shop then consisted of a watercolor painting of an iris, photo blocks and notebooks which I decoupaged in beautiful papers. I added Christmas ornaments (still offer near Christmas). I later added more decorative items, birdhouses and wooden letters that were decoupaged. A friend once told me that if my husband lay still long enough, I would probably decoupage him as well!

At that time there was Etsy Alchemy, where customers could post what they wanted made and sellers would show examples and quote a price. If a customer liked what you were offering, they would accept your bid. You would make it and get paid. I came across someone needing a Family Established wood sign and was accepted. The customer really liked their new sign and I decided to make a listing to see if others would sell. It did! And soon I started to design and make other wood signs....and pretty much the rest is history!

Some customer have contact me about a certain saying, song lyric, quote or Bible verse. I sometimes like the saying and design so much that I offered it to others. Some of the signs have been my own idea, but a majority are special to others. I thank everyone who has given me some great sayings. I have enjoyed making each design and sign.

My wonderful husband helps with getting the wood, cutting, sanding and putting keyholes in the back. I wipe the boards, prime and paint, apply the lettering, show photos for approval, seal, package and ship. I am also the one who answers your messages and shows mock-up of new designs.

These last years have been wonderful and seem to be getting better all the time. Thank you for your support through your purchases and kind words. I appreciate each one of them!
