I'm Katharine, yes, with an a... like Katharine Hepburn, but you can call me Kate. I am crafty by nature. Always had an artistic itch but I could not draw to save my life or stick with any musical instrument for more than a year. My talents were better suited for design.
I have always had the desire to paint things that didn't need to be painted, adorn things that most would throw out, and to turn almost anything into a useful or decorative object. Wait, I know what you are thinking what does any of this have to do with jewelry?
Bio:
I grew up in Mount Vernon, NY a suburb of NYC. Went to SUNY Geneseo and graduated with a degree in psychology. I have worked in metal health ever since. I got married in 2008 and planned every detail of what I thought was the perfect day. Most recently I have worked as a Recreation Therapist at a residential home for victims of CSEC (commercial sexual exploitation of children) and human trafficking. It was here I was able to put my crafting to work. Miracles can be worked even with very small budgets. I became the go to person for all things crafty, If I didn’t know how to do it, I would learn. Beading and jewelry design was a particularly successful and rewarding. The girls and I even helped create some pieces that were sold at an annual fundraiser.
About 3 years ago my husband and I purchased our first house. Turns out, owning a home, caring for my two dogs and three cats, yada yada, gets expensive real fast. As much as I loved my job I needed to take my career to the next step. I applied to nursing school and opened Destellar Design. I will be starting in May 2013 at Fairfield University.

Inspiration:
I have never been able to subscribe to just one style of anything. If I like it its my style. I am inspired by everything from vintage glam to nature’s beauty. Not at all subtle, I love bold pieces. Bright colors. A piece of jewelry should Make an outfit, not just compliment it. My honeymoon in Peru made me infatuated with the tribal color and texture.
