The long view with the feeling of endless space (the Southwest) is my greatest comfort as well as a compelling influence. I've called New Mexico home for nearly 50 years, most of that time designing/making/selling my own work. For close to 30 years floral applique quilt patterns were my focus. A benefit of travel related to quilt shows was seeing towns big and small amidst large swaths of land interspersed with natural wonders.

Sacred places, bungalows and National Park lodges are my architectural favorites. I find the ingenuity and workmanship of early craftsmen astounding. Their use of authentic, sometimes unusual materials and their attention to detail are unsurpassed. They inspire me.

Flowers have been a constant fascination since childhood. My relentless inspection proved useful when drawing the applique quilt designs. Inadvertently I had amassed a bounty of knowledge regarding their botanical forms. Years of gardening filled in the gaps.

Color and pattern are always present in my work -- saturated and in abundance. The interplay of the two entertains the eye and engages the senses. I am comfortable with mixing textures and enjoy the challenge of color work all the while striving to balance both.

It's been a steep learning curve of trial and error, mostly self-taught. My combining techniques has produced unusual hybrid products. The applique style of my art quilts is a marriage of dimensional hand applique and extreme machine quilting. Traditional bead embroidery is transformed and modernized when structured as a bolo tie. My acid etched jewelry pieces are one-of-a-kind, happy accidents. The folk art frames and metal bolos are rooted in New Mexican tinwork. The quilt patterns and kits are faithful renditions of recognized flower species.
