I have always been fascinated with dodos. I love their quirky, unique personalities as portrayed in Alice in Wonderland and Ice Age.
My work has always been some form of mixed media. It is taking unwanted objects that would have otherwise been extinct like a dodo and transforming them into something fancy. Hence, Fancy Dodo.
I started making bottle cap earrings out of old comics and magazines to raise money for other crafting supplies, but then bottle cap earrings became my craft! All my friends were bringing over handfuls of caps in exchange for a custom pair of earrings. A few friends ordered pairs as Christmas presents, and I realized I had something going. I was running an etsy shop with a friend, but she decided not to craft anymore. I opened up Fancy Dodo soon after. Finding the perfect size image can be daunting so I turned to Photoshop expanding my collection. My "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" earrings were the first earrings I digitally created.
My inspiration mainly comes from my materials and through the etsy community. Other sellers will give me ideas or request custom pieces that start a chain of ideas. Other times, it comes from simply flipping through a magazine and finding a funky pattern.
