Hello! My name is Cassie, and I'm the yarn spinner and natural dyer behind FuzzbeeYarns.

I live with my husband and one cat (named Louie after Louis CK) in our historic 1927 home overlooking Lake Hiawatha in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The house is filled with soft fibers ready to spin and fresh and dried plants and powders galore for natural dyeing.

As a natural dyer, the environment is important to me--one reason I work with natural dyes is to create a connection between the knitters and crocheters who use my yarns and the natural world around us. I work to keep my process as local, sustainable and environmentally low-impact as I can.

Why natural dye?
Natural dyes are plant materials like leaves, flowers, nuts, berries, and weeds that can yield beautiful and complex colors. Natural dyes have been used to color yarn for thousands of years by ancient and native peoples around the world. Dyeing this way is more time intensive, but I use no heavy metals or synthetic materials for the least possible environmental impact. My natural dyes are often grown in my garden or foraged from my neighborhood for beautiful, local and environmentally friendly yarns.

Aesthetically, natural dyed yarns are much more complex and unique than those dyed with synthetic dyes. Slight variations in everything from the soil the plants are grown in to the pH of the water used for dyeing bring out different shades and colors. These yarns have undertones, overtones, and an incredible depth. Knitting, crocheting and weaving with natural dyed yarn is a one of a kind experience: historical, environmental, and one that brings your craft closer to the natural world.
