Honeybees & Daisies Etsy Shop opened on February 15th, 2013, after life steered my career path unexpectedly. It all started after I was let go from my previous job of 4 years and was looking in all the wrong places for "work." I finally got to the point of "what am I doing?!" when I finally asked myself, “Kayla, if you are honest with yourself, what do you want to do?!” That is when I allowed myself to get back in touch with my “Art-Fart” side (as I so eloquently refer to my creative side as) and pursue my loves of entrepreneurship, photography, treasure hunting, and people. Once I stopped fighting against my gut is when I felt like life took a big “Ahhhh” sigh for me. I didn’t realize how much my previous job was taking form me until I found myself again. Sometimes we need a good kick out one door so we have to walk, run, or crawl through another better one. That is when Honeybees & Daises was born!
I am so incredibly blessed and humbled when I think about everything that I get to do as my crazy entrepreneur self! With lots of prayer and hard work I feel that I am finally settling into what I was made to do, which is 5 things! I know it sounds crazy, but it is perfect for me! I am grateful for my equal parts business-mindedness paired with my artsy-fartsy side, with a dash of crazy to hold it all together : )
As a photographer, musician, and life-long entrepreneur, I get to drink coffee and sing my little heart out while I take photos of my treasures, then get them posted on Honeybees & Daisies Etsy Shop for you, my Crazy Daisies (my sophisticated title for you, the Honeybees & Daisies family), to take home and love all the days long!
I am most excited to share that you can shop with confidence at Honeybees & Daisies knowing that with every purchase you make you are helping empower women struck by the grief and oppression of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation through the heart-filled work of Rescue America. Rescue America empowers victims to exit the sex trade via a 24/7 hotline and emergency assessment program through a holistic approach providing healing of the mind, body and spirit and based on a five-step process: Respond, Rescue, Assess, Stabilize, and Place. This is the first step for many trafficked women to start their own businesses, grow their communities and rebuild their lives. I have partnered with Rescue America and am happy to share that a portion of all the proceeds from Honeybees & Daisies Etsy shop proudly goes to sponsor these brave women. My story wouldn't be complete without a little reason behind my love for Etsy itself! I love how easy Etsy is to navigate and all the wonderful people and community here. Etsy is a great place to be a supporter and be supported by the worldwide customers, staff and vendors. So many creative people together in one place is a great thing : )
So, where do all the Honeybees & Daisies treasures come from? I love a good swap meet, thrift store, estate sale and even a good closet clean out to stock my Etsy Shop. Lots and lots of hunting for well-made funky vintage pieces that are in good-awesome condition. I always go with my gut on things. If something is on the border of funky and freaky, I ask myself if I would wear it. If I would, then all my Crazy Daisies get their chance to take it home and make it their own kind of fabulous!
I will end this novella with the story behind the Honeybees & Daises name. The last tid-bit of Honeybees & Daisies trivia that I know you are just chomping at the bit to find out! It is about to get real up in here : )
On the surface, I wanted a name that was adorable and inviting, and Honeybees & Daisies hit the spot for me. I also wanted to pick a name that made people feel happy and welcome in addition to having a little deeper meaning as well.
I am a firm believer that life is full of moments that have the potential to “sting” like a bee, be beautiful and carefree as a daisy, or even be both at the same time…I know, complicated, right?! Not to forget that we need the honeybees (potential pains) for honey (the sweet stuff) and pollination (growth) to keep the daisies (us) alive and fabulous. Welcome to life and the journey.
You are a treasured Crazy Daisy Family member, and are welcome in this hive!
Much Love,
Kayla
