I've been knitting since before I began primary school, and teaching knitters nearly as long. Growing up in rural New Zealand, there weren't a great deal of patterns available, so I would make them up as ideas struck. I knew I was a knitter by heart when I stayed awake all night making a cardigan to wear to a school mufti-day in the morning... and after that, knitting became a passion.
When I was laid up in hospital with a broken leg, my love for hats began. They were something easy to knit and design while being under bed-rest. My mother would then have to drive me to drop hats off to anyone who mildly expressed an interest in one. At the peak of my bed-ridden-crutch days, I was churning out 5 original hats a day... and then I discovered online yarn sales!
I have been publishing my designs ever since, both on Ravelry and on my blog. One day I would love to retire and just knit for others... but for now I will settle for working with yarn in my spare time.
