Frequently asked questions
When and how will my order ship?
We ship in 3-5 business days 11 months of the year, but 1-3 business days in December for hats/scarves. We use 1st class mail for orders up to 16 oz--that's over 80% of our inventory. Priority Mail for orders 1+ lb. Books ship Media Mail, which is slower than 1st class. Weather and holidays cause postal delays, especially in December and that is beyond seller's control. Tracking # on orders over $10 is on your Etsy order page. Double-check ship-to address. We offer free shipping within the US on orders over $35. On multiple orders under $35, you'll see shipping discounts at check out.
Do you accept returns?
We accept returns as noted in only a few clothing listings. If you do not see a return policy in the listing, returns/exchanges are not accepted for that listing. No returns accepted on hats, headbands or face masks, due to hygiene reasons. If the listing gives return instructions, please follow those EXACTLY; we reserve the right to refuse refunds if you don't. Read listings and FAQs before ordering. If we mess up your order, please send us a calm, polite Etsy convo within a few days of receipt, without leaving bad feedback, and we will make things right.
A word of advice.
Most issues we've encountered since 2003 could have been prevented by reading the listing and looking at photos. COLOR: No two people see or define color the same way; what you call beige someone else may call tan or off-white. We describe color as best we can, but please read the listing, look at all photos and be flexible. SIZE: We test every hat for size, so please measure your head before ordering. If you order a scarf that’s 3" wide, don’t expect 6”. Scarves look bigger on a petite woman v. a plus-size one. We measure everything we list; consider those measurements before ordering.

What is my tracking number?
We send a tracking number on orders over $10. Check your transactions page on Etsy. USPS tracking sometimes doesn't update for days, especially near holidays. Sometimes USPS tracking shows "pre-transit" and "delivered," but nothing in-between. Nobody likes this! But just because you don't see updates doesn't mean your package is lost. Your mail carrier may be out ill or blizzards may slow down delivery. Most packages arrive eventually. Read the FAQ below this one if you are growing impatient.
Is my package lost in the mail?
We ship to the address you gave at checkout. USPS tracking information is not always complete and your order may be out for delivery despite minimal tracking data. But if tracking shows delivery, ask residents at your address if they brought in mail. Check shrubs and the back door. In our experience, when a tracking # shows arrival, the package DID arrive. If necessary, call your post office and give them the tracking number. We've shipped 100,000+ packages since 2003 and while some were delayed, virtually ALL arrived. Most of our packages fit in most mailboxes, so package theft is not usually a concern. You might consider getting a PO Box or package drop set-up.

We do not negotiate prices, change listings, add photos, lengthen straps, change shipping method, break up destashes or do custom orders. We ship in the time frame and method stated, but if you order a lot of merchandise that would ordinarily be shipped first class mail--and your total order exceeds 16 oz.--you will be upgraded to USPS Priority Mail. We will ship a gift to another address without revealing the price you paid, but PLEASE type this address in the SHIP TO space during CHECK OUT, not in a separate email.
What about those huge rebates LAE is known for?
We now offer free shipping within the US on orders over $35. But even on smaller orders, if you buy more than one item, you will likely see shipping discounts when you check out.
Do you ship outside the US?
We used to, but postal rates and Etsy policies changed and right now, I am not seeing a way to ship a scarf to Australia for less than $55.35 using Etsy shipping.
If we do reinstate shipping, we will include Canada and Australia for sure. You could be subject to taxes and/or handling charges collected by your country. Seller collects payment for product + shipping. Buyer pays any fees collected by your country. Seller will not pay, reimburse or credit any fees, either before or after you order.
