I remember the first time I played a New Wave vinyl record. It was a beautiful spring day several years ago and I was helping my Dad clean out the garage. We found his old Technics turntable covered up amid all the odds and ends, and fishing poles, and brought it outside. I asked him if it still worked and he said there was just one way to find out. We immediately went to work hooking up all the cables and cords. When it looked like we were about ready to flip the switch, I ran inside to grab an album from my Dad’s collection.

I put a copy of the Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) onto the turntable and hit the power button. The stereo came to life and the disc slowly gathered speed. The needle hovered for a few seconds and then came down over the first track. Next I heard the blend of the boom; boom-boom-boom of the drum machine and melodic rhythm of the synthesizer. Annie Lennox mesmerizing voice softly called out from the speakers:

Love is a stranger in an open car
To tempt you in and drive you far away...

I turned it up and stood there in the shadow of the garage while being transported back for a few moments to the spring of 1983.

It wasn’t long after this that I picked up my own vintage 80s turntable at a garage sale and started to build my own collection of New Wave albums. My first album was Crowded House’s Temple Of Low Men. The single “Better Be Home Soon” is one of my all-time favourite tunes.

I decided to open ♡Luv My Wave♡ on Etsy to share my love of New Wave with other fans of totally awesome music and to earn money to help pay for my University tuition. I was inspired to name my shop after the Psychedelic Fur’s song “Love My Way” and I am trying my best to make it awesome, fun and exciting-just like the many New Wave albums found within.
