About the Designer
Established in 2008 after being awarded an Arts Council grant and Princes Trust Loan, Kathryn Sillince launched her unique Accessories label in January 2010.
Along with her team, she designs and crafts luxury leather handbags and accessories for women and men. Kathryn hand selects the finest leathers, linings and hardware and hand-stitches finishing details.
Our Ethical Policy
When Kathryn started researching suppliers and processes for making leather handbags and accessories while studying at London College of Fashion, she realized very quickly that there were a very tiny number of leather goods companies going down the ethical route, and wondered why. She set about to create a brand that would operate in the most ethical way possible, from how each product is made right down to the day-to-day running of the business and administration.
There is no recognised one way of categorising leather for either carbon footprint or ‘organic-ness.’ However, there are groups of people throughout the world working for sustainability & reduction of leathers’ environmental impact, involving constant research. All the leathers used in our ranges are sourced from tanners who share our strict ethical vision. The leather comes from animals organically fed and humanely raised, are by-products of the food industry and sourced from local farms around the UK, supporting the British economy. They are all tanned with the most current technologies and research. No exotic skins or fur are used. Neoprene & rubber solution are widely used in the production of leather goods around the world, no glues are used in our products: just double sided tape & a few handy bulldog clips! All printer cartridges are re-filled or recycled, and low energy bulbs are used in the studio. The linings of our products are made with 100% organic (GOTS) Fair Trade cottons, and are dyed with roots and flowers. Where we print onto dust bags or linings, we use water-based, eco-friendly inks. We are a proud member of Ethical Junction.
Product After Care
Before any of our pieces leave our studio, we treat them with organic beeswax and organic conditioner sprays made with natural ingredients like bamboo and olive oil. This ensures the leather is hydrated and splash-proof. These are solvent & propellant free, and smell amazing! We recommend keeping your new Magpie Accessories creation out of direct sunlight. Leather, being an organic substance, needs hydrating just like our skin does, so every six months we advise treating it to a moisturising conditioner spray or light rub with beeswax.

Handcrafted in our Yorkshire studio out of the finest locally sourced leathers, we specialize in commissions and work with you to create exquisite bespoke pieces to meet your requirements. Our classic range is growing all the time with new designs, and comprise of large weekender totes and messenger bags to small clutch purses and washbags. Our range for men features laptop bags, guitar and camera straps, smartphone and cuffs. Travel accessories feature Passport Cases, Kindle, Ipad and Laptop sleeves. Personalization is key, with embossing available on many items making them the perfect gift. All orders are beautifully gift-wrapped in eco-papers with luxury ribbons in a colour of your choosing, and a personalised message can be added to your gift.

Shipping
Sending things to anywhere outside the E.U. from the UK normally takes 7 working days minimum, up to two-three weeks in some occasions in my experience. They seem to get to America quickly, and then stay in customs for a while before they are dispatched around the US. Please bear this in mind when ordering & be patient if parcels take slightly longer than 7 working days, this is quite normal! I ship on the same day / day following an order so that your item can get to you as quickly as possible.
