Hello and welcome to Mermaid to Order! I started making these mermaid ornaments one day when I was doing arts and crafts with my children. I think I was just dying to make something feminine. I live with a husband and two boys and mermaids are such a great symbol of femininity--free-spirited sea goddesses, unfettered by domesticity. Once I started making them, I couldn't stop.

The mermaids featured in this shop are based on my favorite designs, but my specialty is customization. I love to make mermaids with someone or something in mind, so if you're buying a mermaid for someone special please feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to work with you on customizing the details. (A princess mermaid holding a soccer ball for a budding soccer enthusiast, for example, or a hula girl holding a Christmas wreath.) All of the mermaids can be made with a banner featuring a person's name or a word that personifies them (ex: Beauty or Artiste!), or even a short saying (ex: Carpe diem!, I heart coffee!). I would be honored to work with you on party favors or specialized gifts for bridal parties. Prices for customized mermaids vary based on the intricacy of the request.

The ornaments are made of polymer clay hardened in the oven, and most of them (the ones with white torsos) glow in the dark. They tend to be between six and seven inches long, and they make lovely wall decorations over a bed, in the kitchen window, or on an office or studio wall. They also dangle beguilingly from the rear view mirror and make beautiful, unique, personal gifts for birthdays, wedding parties, or holidays.

Girls between the ages of 5 and 11 LOVE them. I am not kidding. If you're looking for a birthday present for a little girl, stock up! You can't go wrong with a glow in the dark princess mermaid for her to hang above her bed. Planning a mermaid theme party for your daughter? I'd be happy to work with you on the party favors. Finally, the mermaids you see in the store are models--I make each one to order, so what you get in the mail may have slight variations (and I do mean slight) in facial features and dimensions from what you see in the picture.
