I have always loved jewelry. As a child I spent hours rummaging through my grandmother's jewelry. I loved the sparkling, pretty colors, the shapes, and the styles. Her jewelry was from the 20's, 30's, and 40's and gorgeous! I was always in trouble for getting into her jewelry! I started making my own jewelry in 2003, after my last child left home. My shop evolved from a humble hobby--wire wrapping polished rocks. I love polished rocks! I didn't know anything about wire wrapping, I just bought copper wire from the hardware store and wrapped them as I could. As my craft evolved I added wire wrapping other than rocks and bead stringing. People bought my jewelry, so I decided I would try a craft show. It was a bust, though. I was discouraged, but the next year I applied to a juried craft show, and was accepted! I still do this show every year. In 2006 I discovered a lovely bead store in Roswell NM. The owner's wife created Lacy's Stiff Stuff, a base for bead embroidery. This lovely lady and her daughter introduced me to the world of bead embroidery and bead weaving. In 2010 I discovered dichroic fused glass and thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I bought a microwave kiln, and after about 2 weeks decided I needed a real kiln. I found I love making the fused glass as much as I love the different techniques of jewelry making. And thus, you see many different techniques used in my jewelry making. What's next? Who knows....ever evolving!
I love making jewelry that has been described as "unusual" by many people. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's what I love to do. My philosophy is "dare to be yourself. " I may follow trends, or I may not. I can't plan the designs, either, the designs make themselves. Sounds wierd, but that's the way it is! I've always "marched to the beat of a different drummer", not a "follow the crowd" type of person. I feel that if someone connects to a piece of jewelry, it was made for them.
I hope you enjoy your visit to my shop. Please visit often, as I list new items frequently. Thank you!
