Hello Etsy friends, I am originally from London, and moved to Italy in 1989. My father was Italian so this is a big part of my identity.
I always dabbled in Art and as a youngster in London my studies took a creative path. I was very, VERY influenced by the magic of Musicals. In this respect, my life-long curiosity towards Art in general is related to how it can recall or re-create a specific time or spirit. Just like a musical!
I began working creatively full-time in 2002 as a decorator. Traditional Italian decoration is about "dressing" architecture with a layer of historic, style-conscious wall-painting. Very much the same way a set design re-creates a home for a period drama! On occasion, I use Lime paint. Since this is most certainly a rare medium now in Italy, I felt that it would be nice to talk a little about the subject on a blog. This brought me to begin a small collection of paintings on gesso board made to look like artifacts found among ruins. Small pieces of broken decorated wall-plaster, perhaps from a roman temple, the Vatican or some nobleman's palace? These were the first items I posted onto my Etsy shop.
I have now added to my artistic activities paper-crafts that allow me to play with fashion... and again: style. I started with paper shoes, thus the name "It's only a Paper Shoe" , a play on the song "It's only a paper moon", which is all about reality and fantasy and therefore right up my street.
"These delightful hand-crafted paper shoes and paper crafts are gorgeous little treats that always make a distinctive statement. For a special message, an exclusive invitation, a unique gift, a fabulous favour, an unusual thank you ... It’s only a paper shoe! Includes a tag for your own special message." ( Alida Acton)
I have a passion for drawing figures: portraits, dancers, movement, models and animals.
My hope is that people will feel inspired to interact with me and enjoy the experience of a traditional service approach: where the customers personal taste is the consideration of the Artist/Artisan. Let's face it, it is time for a post-industrial revolution.
