Frequently asked questions

Care instructions

One should treat an original painting with care being mindful not to allow it to get too hot or cold, or to be exposed to moisture or direct sunlight. The easiest way to damage an original painting is to set it on top of something that might poke through the canvas. The safest place for an original painting is to be hung on a wall where it can be admired, protected and enjoyed.
Similar precautions should be taken for a canvas print yet keep in mind that the image is more fragile than an original painting. Definitely keep the print out of direct sunlight and at a balanced temperature. Keep away from heating sources and excess moisture. Like an original painting, the safest place for a canvas print is hung on the wall.

Custom and personalized orders

I often paint portraits, and commissioned requests based on photographs. Each commission is unique. If it fits my artistic style and I believe it would make a good painting I will be glad to work with you on a commissioned work. If I do not think my style is a best fit for you, I will try to give you suggestions. Send me an email and we can discuss your project.

What is the difference between an original painting and a print?

An original painting is made on a canvas, typically, with high quality artist paint and brushes. The work is intense and since it is quite detailed it takes quite a while to finish. An original is a one-of-a-kind. It is signed, dated, and framed by me. One should treat an original painting with care being mindful not to allow it to get too hot or cold, or to be exposed to moisture or direct sunlight.
A canvas print of a painting is made from taking a high resolution photograph of an original painting and direct a print company to replicate the image on canvas. A canvas print therefore can be more affordable. Since the canvas prints in my shop are stretched on deep stretcher bars (with a black canvas edge) they look more contemporary

What is your process?

My original artwork are paintings made with Liquitex Acrylics on canvas. I love Liquitex because of it’s pure color spectrum. I use a limited palette and find virtually any color can be made from six colors (a warm and cool version of three primary colors) plus white. I do not use black. Anything that appears black on a painting is actually a very dark combination of colors that looks like black. I follow the color theories from my teaching line that goes back five artists, the last of whom painted in Monet’s gardens during this lifetime. I find great joy in observing the natural world around me and painting images of beauty.
