Paint and Pigment is the culmination of the creative outlets of my life. As a child I went to a very small school – only 40 kids in my grade – and we had Art class once a month. Once a month was not enough to satisfy my craving to create and craft and make. My mother ran a small tie-dye business on and off throughout my childhood and I would often dye with her. She let me create anything I wanted. I chose my colors, my designs. She lovingly rinsed, washed, dryed and displayed my creations for me.
Later, in my high school Art Club, I would be the one teaching my peers how to make the rainbow swirl they desired. I mixed the dyes for them, set up buckets for them to soak their shirts, showed them how to tie up their shirts into designs. Sharing this with them was one of my favorite high school memories.
In college, I took an amazing Ceramics class that changed my perception of dishes and serve ware forever. Now, when I see something in a store I know what it took for a person to make it. I try to imagine what they thought about as they designed it. While I’m probably a year out from having my own at home ceramic studio, I still like to dabble in the decorative aspect of my own dining collection.
All of my life has brought me to sharing Paint and Pigment on Etsy. It’s still new, and I’m still learning, but I’m pretty proud of our little start. My mother dyes some items with me, I paint the dishes, and we share our common love of creating.
