I love to create, whether it’s sewing, quilting, cooking, or crafting. There is creativity flowing through my family. One of my grandmas taught me to embroider; the other taught me to sew. My mom gave me my first sewing machine and taught me to quilt. I think that Singer sewing machine was the best gift I ever received!
When I began sewing, it was Halloween costumes for my son. Then, Halloween quilts for the holiday. Yes, I seem to have an addiction for Halloween and Christmas!
After a few years of living in ChicagoLand, I met my friend Paige at our LQS. We hit it off and she started a local sewing group called SewMod. Seven girls coming together to sew and inspire each other.
Paige & I noticed there was a lack of bright, modern fabrics being offered in our area. By 2010 we were officially in business with our own Etsy shop...SewModDesigns, offering quality, quilt shop fabrics, notions and unique patterns. We wanted to attract not only the generation that taught us how to quilt but inspire the upcoming generation to create as well.
Our pattern vision for SewMod was simple…we would use traditional blocks and patterns and put a modern, whimsy spin on them through color and design focusing on baby quilts and accessories. Our first pattern was a dresden called Cannon Beach. Traditional, yet modern and we haven't stopped designing since!
We all Need2Create! Which is why I started our sister Etsy shop...SewModMakes. I am blessed to be surrounded by many talented friends & family members who have joined me to share their handcrafted items in this shop. We specialize in hand embroidery, crocheted items, quilts and yoga accessories. We love to sew and craft. Being creative for us is a way to express ourselves, reconnect with our creative spirit and meet new people...We Need2Create!
