About Me and the Shadow Puppet Theatres
The combined experience of being a dad, a printer, illustrator and musician has led me on a creative path of discovery. As I made a wooden puppet theatre for my kids the project took on a life of its own and the design slowly morphed into a more portable shadow puppet theatre, of different sizes, with a number of fairy tales and fables and has been enjoyed by kids and adults all over the world.
My inspiration comes from classic illustrators such as Arthur Rackham, Walter Crane, Ivan Bilibin, Herman Vogle. Having drawn a lot as a child, this project has re-awakened that desire once again. In the process I have been discovering classic fairy tales, fables and folk tales from many cultures. Acting out these shadow plays is a great way of building imagination and storytelling.
Hearkening back to shadows on cave walls, there is something magical about shadow puppetry, that draws kids to play and make up their own stories.
In an age of ubiquitous electronics and "screen time" there is little left to imagination. My goal is to encourage "unplugged" play, together with the family that builds creativity, imagination and story telling.
Let's bring back the art of storytelling!
