Understanding fabric..........
What is Satin?
Satin is a type of textile weave that makes a glossy fabric. Though this method is most classically used with silk thread, it can also be used with other materials like polyester, acetate, nylon, and rayon. There are several different variations on this weave, notably sateen. Despite the fact that it's a method for making fabric, the term "satin" is also used as a descriptor to refer to specific types of fabric.
To be considered a true satin, a fabric must be woven in a very specific manner.
What is Charmeuse?
Charmeuse is a lightweight fabric woven with a satin weave, where the warp threads cross over three or more of the backing (weft) threads. The front side of the fabric has a satin finish—lustrous and reflective—whereas the back has a dull finish. It can be made of silk or a synthetic lookalike such as polyester. Silk charmeuse is more expensive and delicate but is softer and a better insulator. Polyester charmeuse is cheaper and can often withstand machine washing, but it does not breathe as well as silk. Charmeuse differs from plain satin in that charmeuse is softer and lighter in weight.
What is Silk?
What is the momme (mummy) weight of silk you are purchasing?
Silk is a filament fiber formed from proteins secreted by Bombyx mori, or silkworms. Silkworms are not actually worms, but caterpillars, despite their common name. Humans have practiced silk production, which originated in China, for thousands of years. Highly prized for its softness, insulating properties, and strength, the fiber is a natural animal product and therefore quite expensive. Making it requires monitoring and feeding the silkworms constantly, and a great deal of effort results in a surprisingly small amount of thread.

3 out of 5 starsThese are very nicely made! But I ordered the JUMBO size and the rollers I got were not even large, let alone jumbo. More like small to medium! It was partly my own fault because when I saw the word "jumbo" I assumed I'd be getting a nice big roller, so I didn't read the item description that carefully. The seller does post the measurement of this roller. Just be sure that your view of "jumbo" matches that (smallish) roller diameter! If it does, you may love these. Unfortunately, I'm out $12 and will have to give them away.

Rollers can vary in diameter based on brand. These are Annie brand jumbo rollers 1 1/2" diameter which is listed in description. Jumbo rollers have a very large size range up to 3" or more in diameter and custom sizes can be requested if available.
