About 8 years ago, a southern friend of mine had a nice harvest of fresh figs from his land and needed help to preserve them, so I volunteered to help prep, cook, and can the whole lot, which took two days of straight work. The next year, his crop was even bigger, so I helped out again. If it wasn't for those early experiences in canning figs, I wouldn't have realized how much work, fun, and how rewarding canning your own food could be.
Over time, the satisfaction and love of canning has caused me to branch out into other tasty ventures such as making cakes, cookies, jams, jellies, chocolate, pickling, granola blends, cheeses, and homemade yogurt all from scratch as much as possible. I support local farms and always pick fresh!
My best friend tells me all the time I need to buy a farm and set up a small stand to sell all my homemade goodies, and with some luck and God's blessing, I hope to make this dream a reality!
Why? Because homemade is always better!
